I was doing reasonably well but nosedived towards the end. We split school runs and childcare pretty evenly but I need to buck my ideas up re. uniforms, presents, and school forms. There's a danger the "you're just better at this kind of stuff" argument will lead to resentment eventually (even though it is very much true.) I DO take them for a haircut, at least.
Worst chore in our house by some distance is cleaning out the Guinea Pig cage. I am allergic to the hay and sawdust and shit just gets everywhere. Horrific.
Ha ha. The ‘you’re better at this stuff’ definitely doesn’t cut it 😂 there’s only one way to get good at stuff and that’s practice. Guinea pigs…. I feel your pain. My sister used to have them when we were little (until they developed some kind of mad cow disease…but a guinea pig version 😬😬 thanks for restacking. Much appreciated. Very kind of you. We’re off on holiday right now and I’m looking forward to catching up on all your substack posts. Who needs books or magazines when you’ve got substack!
Wow, I've done all but 3 of these (dont' have a dishwasher or a nearby lice clinic).
I put all the single socks in a bag, and every 4 months or so I play 'Sock Snap', it's quite satisfying, though I don't get out much, and also no-one else wants to play it..
Thanks for writing this Tedd…Can tick every single box and add a few more of my own. Oh the emotional labour… mopping up tears from friendships gone wrong, boyfriends gone awol and general adolescent pain and angst. Not to mention night upon night of exam reassurance, testing French vocab and trying to convince your kid that cool kids are just not good at maths and that’s ok…. Whilst my husband sits downstairs and asks ‘what took you so long?’ when I return from my daughter’s bedrooms frazzled. Put that on the app please… bloody invisible to everyone apart from other mothers. X
P. S F*cking hate pairing socks, it’s the work of the devil 😈 🧦
Thanks Rebecca. Yes….the list kind of changes doesn’t it as little ones become teens. Thankfully I wasn’t called to help with any kind of revision help during the recent batch of GCSES even though I did offer my services for a bit of French vocab help….it was a firm ‘no’ from my son 😂
Thank you so much Esther. Yes please do share away with whoever you think it might resonate with. I hope you had a lovely time in Porto. I’m sure I read something about you going there. I went earlier in the year with two friends and we loved it 😀 highlights- that amazing book shop, drinking port and a walk along by the sea on a very wild and windy day (we went in March and there were thunderstorms)
Well remembered Tess (this was my family nick-name as a child ♥️) Yes…we did all those things. A gorgeous place…so much to do/see/eat/buy. We had great weather! X
…. Have the incredible ablity to walk themselves every day unaided, let themselves in and out of the kitchen twenty times a day every time they incessantly bark and even manage to pick up their own ‘invisible shit ‘ from the garden every evening! 😜
😀I’m glad you find ‘sock snap’ satisfying. Take the wins where you can. I don’t know why I find socks so absolutely infuriating. I almost have a visceral reaction when I see ‘singles’ tumble out of the washing. My latest tactic has been to just buy a load of black socks. We all pretty much have the same size feet in this household now. Share/ don’t pair/ don’t really care. 😂
Haha, I think you've covered the lot here, Tess.

I can resonate with all of this Tess and don’t get me started on how our two dog
